You must have heard about chakras, the seven wheels of energy that lie along the spine from the tailbone to the top of the head. These chakras are powered by prana, the vital life force that flows into and out of the chakras and circulates through the body. Chakras need to be balanced, or you will feel different discomforts, depending on the unbalanced chakra.
The heart chakra is the fourth chakra. As its name suggests, the heart chakra is related to joy, love, compassion, and empathy.
About the Heart Chakra
The heart chakra is located near the heart area. Its Sanskrit name, Anahata, means unhurt, unstruck, and unbeaten. It is the center of love, compassion, empathy, and forgiveness for oneself and others. The heart chakra is associated with the element air because love surrounds us as air disperses.
A Well-balanced Heart Chakra
When the heart chakra is balanced, you will feel surrounded by love, compassion, and joy. You will also feel connected to the world and the people around you and open to all experiences in life. Even challenges, especially in relationships, will become pieces of cake and can be resolved easily. An open heart chakra allows us to recognize all the beauty and love around us and truly connect to ourselves, our loved ones, and the natural world.
An Unbalanced Heart Chakra
When the prana in the heart chakra is unbalanced, you can feel scared, fearful, hurt, and perhaps even hateful. Sometimes the opposite of love is fear because both can cause the same reaction to the heart, such as beating faster. Therefore, an imbalance can manifest as a tight, fearful feeling in your chest.
If your heart chakra is blocked, you may tend to isolate yourself excessively, even if you feel lonely. You often have a fear of intimacy and could hold grudges against people whom you love and who love you.
How to Balance the Heart Chakra
● Yoga Poses
A holistic yoga practice, made up of yoga postures, breathing techniques, and meditation, will move the prana and balance your chakras. Some yoga poses are great at opening the heart chakra. For example, camel, wheel, and extended puppy poses can stretch your chest and help you open up your heart to the world.
● Practice Love and Gratitude
When you express your love and gratitude, you are more likely to receive the same from others. Positive, loving affirmations and appreciation to others and yourself will help you build stable and caring relationships and balance your heart chakra.
● Eat Leafy Greens
When your heart chakra is unbalanced, you may notice physical discomfort manifest around your heart and chest. Broccoli, spinach, kale, cabbage, celery, and green tea can heal your heart chakra because they are beneficial for heart health.
