A Summary of the Six Hand Meridians

There are 12 major meridians in the human body. They are the energy channels through which qi, the vital life force, flows. Six of the meridians are hand meridians, and the other six are foot meridians. We will summarize the six hand meridians that were explained in detail previously. If you missed the previous updates, this article might be an ideal place to start browsing the theories of meridians.

The Six Hand Meridians

The six hand meridians all pass through the hands and the arms. They correspond to different organs and can help with various conditions. Each meridian runs on both sides of the body, but they are not precisely symmetric because the organs in the human body do not locate in an orderly pattern.

The six hand meridians are:

● The Lung Meridian of Hand Taiyin

● The Heart Meridian of Hand Shaoyin

● The Pericardium Meridian of Hand Jueyin

● The Triple Burner Meridian of Hand Shaoyang

● The Small Intestine Meridian of Hand Taiyang

● The Large Intestine Meridian of Hand Yangming

What Each Hand Meridian Can Do

The Lung Meridian: The lung absorbs air, transforms it into qi, and delivers it through the lung meridian. When the lung meridian lacks qi, you will have respiratory problems, such as coughing, sneezing, panting, and sore throat. Also, the lack of qi in the lung meridian will affect the entire body’s qi storage and make you feel weak.

The Heart Meridian: The heart meridian directly controls the condition of your heart. Cardiovascular diseases, including heart attacks, coronary heart disease, angina, and arrhythmia, are related to this meridian. You may massage and stimulate the heart meridian to relieve health conditions such as chest pain and dry throat. Some mental problems can also be relieved by balancing this meridian.

The Pericardium Meridian: The primary function of the pericardium meridian is to protect the heart physically and defend it from negative energy. It helps regulate circulation in the major blood vessels that run in and out of the heart and prevents heart infection. It will also protect the heart from energy disruptions.

The Triple Burner Meridian: The triple burner meridian connects and regulates qi flow through your systems. It passes your vital organs, collects qi, and transports it to other parts of your body. It can affect your endocrine system and emotions.

The Small Intestine Meridian: The small intestine meridian takes control of the pain in the neck and the upper part of the scapula. People with frozen shoulder or shoulder pain can massage the small intestine meridian and acupuncture to alleviate the symptoms. Moreover, the small intestine meridian regulates many fluids in the human body, including stomach acid, digestive juices, vaginal discharge, and milk.

The Large Intestine Meridian: The large intestine meridian governs the large intestine. If you have intestinal problems such as constipation, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, you can find relief by balancing this meridian. Also, the large intestine meridian can help with skin problems, including acne, eczema, chloasma, and age spots.

TENS Pads Placement for Each Meridian

The Lung Meridian: right below your thumb and on your stomach.

The Heart Meridian: on your wrist line and right chest (never on your heart!)

The Pericardium Meridian: to the right of your right nipple and 2 inches from the right wrist on your arm.

The Triple Burner Meridian: on the back of your right hand and your right lower abdomen.

The Small Intestine Meridian: on the back of your hand and your scapula.

The Large Intestine Meridian: below your thumb and near your elbow (not directly on the joint)

Yin Yang Pair

Yin yang balance is the central concept in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Therefore, all meridians have their yin or yang property. Two meridians form a complementary pair or yin yang pair. Their qi flows are connected, and they often share some common acupoints. As a result, one meridian’s problem will affect its counterpart, and when balancing one of the two meridians, you will also balance its counterpart.

The three pairs of the hand meridians are:

● The lung meridian (yin) and the large intestine meridian (yang)

● The heart meridian (yin) and the small intestine meridian (yang)

● The pericardium meridian (yin) and the triple burner meridian (yang)
