The Solar Plexus Chakra and Its Functions

The solar plexus chakra is also called Manipura. It is located in the upper belly, about four fingerbreadths above the navel. As its name suggests, the solar plexus chakra is related to the element fire and the color yellow, both of which represent warmth and energy. Indeed, it is the container of willpower, and your motivation, self-assurance, and self-esteem all come from the solar plexus chakra.

The Problems of an Unbalanced Solar Plexus Chakra

When the solar plexus chakra is blocked, you will feel a lack of confidence in general. You may hesitate to trust your instinct and worry too much about others’ comments about you. You would continuously search for confirmation and approval from others. This low self-confidence may result in overeating and excessive weight gain because you want food for comfort and compensation.

Beyond yoga, other forms of exercises can also be effective in balancing this chakra, as exercise can help you create a sense of strength, growth, and power.

– Enjoying the Sunshine

The solar plexus chakra can draw prana from the sunshine. Taking a sunbath from time to time can incite the prana flow through this chakra. Rubbing some ginger or cinnamon essential oil on your upper belly will make the sunbath even more effective.

– Practice Positive Affirmations

Affirmations can be beneficial to chakra balancing. By repeating affirmations, either out loud, in our heads, or by writing them down, we help reverse negative thought patterns and replace them with constructive ones. For example, you could repeat affirmations like:

  • I have the courage to…
